Scott decides after the assessment, based on the moss load + tile type + elevation + tree cover. Light moss or fragile tiles usually get a gentle wash plus the moss-stop treatment. Moderate to heavy moss on standard tiles usually gets a moss scrape plus the treatment, the most common Aberdeen job. Heavy moss + algae on hardy concrete sometimes needs the full pressure wash plus the treatment. You get the recommendation in writing before booking, with the reasoning.
Ask for any insurance, training or safety documents you need before accepting the quote. Work should not begin until the requested evidence is current and supplied. Scott is IPAF-trained for powered-access work at height; RAMS are available where the job requires them.
Not with us. When pressure is appropriate, we use a gentle, controlled spray, never the lance-on-tile blasting that cracks slate. On fragile or heritage roofs we skip pressure entirely and use the gentle-wash route instead. The moss-stop treatment is what actually kills the regrowth, not the pressure.
It's the question we get asked most, and the honest answer surprises people: on most Aberdeen roofs there's very little factory finish left to strip. Concrete tiles leave the works with a pigmented surface coating, and Marley — one of Britain's biggest tile makers — put the life of that coating at three to five years. After that it has weathered off on its own, whether the roof is ever cleaned or not. Look at the half-cleaned photos in the gallery above. The washed tiles are matt and granular, the same texture as the untouched tiles beside them, just without the moss on top. What does take the face off a tile is a lance held hard against it, and that's what the assessment is for. Want a coating put back on afterwards?
